In an unexpected move, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has resigned as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Soreng-Chakung constituency. This decision follows closely on the heels of his wife’s resignation from the 11-Namchi-Singithang constituency just a day prior.

Tamang’s resignation comes in adherence to the Conduct of Election Rules 1961, specifically under Section 67/A, which mandates that a candidate elected from multiple constituencies must vacate one within 14 days of the election results. With June 15 marking the final day for this decision, Tamang announced his resignation from the 07-Soreng-Chakung constituency, emphasizing his commitment to allowing another dedicated party member to assume the legislative role.

Despite his resignation, Chief Minister Tamang assured his continued service to the people of Sikkim in his remaining MLA role. Highlighting his deep-rooted connections to Soreng-Chakung, where he was born and raised, and where his mother still resides, he pledged unwavering support and assistance to the constituents.

In his concluding message, Tamang thanked the people of the 07-Soreng-Chakung constituency for their unity, dedication, and sacrifices. He expressed ongoing gratitude for the opportunity to have served as their MLA and encouraged everyone to maintain their collaborative efforts for Sikkim’s prosperous future.
