Mon District Cracks Down on Illegal Lottery Sales

Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has taken decisive action against illegal gambling in Mon District by issuing strict orders to curb the sale of unauthorized lottery tickets. Referencing the Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998, the DC’s office identified the illegal distribution of lottery games such as ShillongTeer, Nagaland Arrow, and Raja Rani in several towns within the district.

The directive, dated June 14, 2024, imposes severe penalties for those caught selling, distributing, or purchasing these illegal lottery tickets, including up to two years of rigorous imprisonment, fines, or both.

Administrative officers, in cooperation with law enforcement, are instructed to carry out immediate inspections within their areas to detect and shut down all illegal lottery operations.
