ITLF Plans Non-Violent Protests Demanding Union Territory Status for Kuki-Zo People in Manipur

The Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has announced plans for non-violent demonstrations on June 24 to advocate for the establishment of a Union territory for the Kuki-Zo people in Manipur. The decision comes amidst dissatisfaction with the upcoming autonomous district council (ADC) elections, which the ITLF claims have caused divisions within the Kuki-Zo community.

In an official statement, the ITLF called for widespread participation in the protests to highlight their political demands. They emphasized the need for community members to join in large numbers across various hill regions, including Pherzawl, Kanggui, and Tengnoupal. The protests will coincide with a complete shutdown to underscore the community’s unified stance.

“We have consistently demanded separation from Manipur, and our political demands remain unresolved,” the ITLF reiterated, urging community members to boycott the ADC polls as a show of solidarity.

The ITLF’s planned demonstrations reflect growing discontent and the push for political autonomy among the Kuki-Zo people in Manipur. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as tensions escalate ahead of the scheduled protests.
