Itanagar Police and School Children March Against Drug Abuse on International Day

In commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Itanagar police, together with school children, organized a road march on June 26 to promote awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. The march, which started from Akash Deep and concluded at the Itanagar police station, featured various activities designed to educate the public about substance abuse.

Deputy SP of Itanagar, Kengo Dirchi, addressed reporters, emphasizing the global significance of the day in the fight against drug abuse, advocating for science-based, compassionate, and unified approaches. “Our week-long program includes not only today’s rally but also sports events for substance abuse victims and a drawing competition with 47 participants,” Dirchi shared.

Under the theme “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention,” Dirchi reiterated the police’s dedication to a drug-free Itanagar. He urged community cooperation, inviting victims and addicts to seek help through the anti-drug corners established in every police station in the city. These corners provide essential information on rehabilitation and de-addiction programs.

Dirchi highlighted the strict enforcement of the NDPS Act, coupled with a humanitarian approach to raise awareness among victims. He pointed out that drug use is a major factor in various crimes and the increasing prevalence of HIV, as addicts often share syringes. He called on students and community-based organizations to be proactive in drug awareness efforts, noting that public participation has been insufficient thus far.

The march and associated events signify a concerted effort by the Itanagar police and community to tackle drug abuse, underscoring the importance of prevention and education in combating this pervasive issue.
