Arrests Made in Alleged Gang Rape of Mentally Challenged Woman in Karimganj, Assam


Karimganj police have swiftly responded to a disturbing incident by apprehending five suspects accused of gang-raping a mentally challenged woman in the Kayasthagram area of Karimganj, Assam. The assault reportedly took place late at night on July 1, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das took immediate action upon receiving the report, initiating a thorough investigation that led to the arrest of Fakhr Mia, Abdul Mastaq, Shamim Uddin, Riyaz Uddin, and Pranesh Sharma. The suspects allegedly abducted the victim in an autorickshaw before committing the assault.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the crime. They now face charges under various sections of the law, including provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act aimed at protecting vulnerable individuals from such atrocities.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who are demanding stringent punishment for the perpetrators to deter similar acts in the future. The police continue to gather evidence diligently to ensure justice is served swiftly and comprehensively in this distressing case.
