Multi-Agency Effort Rescues 115 Individuals from Flood-Stricken Areas of Manipur

In a collaborative endeavor, multiple agencies, including the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Assam Rifles (AR), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and volunteer teams, have successfully rescued approximately 115 people from regions severely affected by floods in Manipur.

The ongoing rescue operations have been instrumental in alleviating the impact of extensive flooding, which has displaced numerous residents and disrupted normal life. “The combined efforts of all agencies involved have been exemplary, demonstrating their dedication and commitment,” remarked a spokesperson from the Manipur Police.

Rescue teams have been operating tirelessly, utilizing boats and essential equipment to navigate through floodwaters and ensure the safe evacuation of affected individuals. Those rescued have been relocated to safer areas where they are receiving necessary assistance and support.

The flood situation in Manipur has been exacerbated by continuous rainfall, leading to breaches in the Imphal River and the overflow of the Iril River. Despite water levels receding in most rivers by Wednesday, breaches were reported at Kshetri Awang Leikai in Imphal East and Oinam Thingel area in Imphal West, causing inundation in surrounding areas.

Areas such as Singjamei and Langthabal in Imphal West have been particularly affected by the overflowing Imphal River, while parts of Kshetrigao and Wangkhei constituencies in Imphal East have been submerged due to the Iril River overflow.

In response, the NDRF, Indian Red Cross Society, Loktak Development Authority, Assam Rifles, and state police have intensified relief and rescue efforts since early Wednesday. The state government has established a 24×7 control room to enhance coordination for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations, ensuring prompt responses to the needs of those affected by the relentless rains, floods, and landslides.
