Manipur Security Forces Bust Major Arms Cache, Arrest Two Suspects

In a significant operation, security forces in Manipur apprehended two suspects and uncovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in Phaitol Village, Tamenglong District. This operation, aimed at maintaining security in the state’s hill and valley districts, resulted in the arrests of Lunjakap Guite and Kaplal Singson.

The confiscated weapons included:

  • Two SBBL guns
  • One .303 rifle
  • One improvised explosive device, known as a Pumpi bomb

In a concurrent operation in YC Hill, Saikot Village, Churachandpur District, security personnel discovered:

  • One single-barrel (country-made) gun
  • Three improvised heavy mortars (Pumpi)
  • Four live cartridges bore marked 70 mm (local-made)
  • Three empty cartridge bores
  • Two empty cartridges for improvised mortars

Moreover, a separate raid in the Hill Range of Village K Lhangnom in Kangpokpi District revealed:

  • One carbine machine gun with a magazine
  • Two 12-bore guns (local-made)
  • One .303 magazine
  • One HE-36 hand grenade
  • Two 80 WP smoke grenades
  • One stun grenade
  • One Baofeng radio set
  • Twenty-one live rounds of ammunition
  • Nine blank rounds

Additionally, security forces facilitated the safe passage of essential goods, ensuring the movement of 212 vehicles along NH-37 and 145 vehicles along NH-2.

To enhance security, 118 Nakas/checkpoints have been established across various districts in Manipur. These measures have resulted in the detention of 85 individuals for various offenses, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region.
