MIDC Chairman Reviews Progress of Varun Beverages’ PepsiCo Plant in Garo Hills

James Sangma, Chairman of the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), convened a significant meeting on July 11 with senior executives of Varun Beverages Ltd, PepsiCo’s bottling partner in India. The focus of the meeting was on the ongoing development of Varun Beverages’ new plant in Mendipathar, Garo Hills.

Set to be the largest Pepsi facility in Northeast India, the plant is expected to create substantial employment opportunities in the region.

During the discussions, Sangma and the MIDC team strategized on measures to facilitate the smooth execution of the project and ensure the timely commencement of its initial phase.

“This initiative has the potential to generate numerous job opportunities for the youth in Garo Hills and provide indirect support to many livelihoods,” Sangma emphasized, highlighting the expected positive economic impact of the venture.

The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of both parties to promote industrial growth in Meghalaya and contribute to the socio-economic development of the state.
