Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Gears Up for Budget Session Starting Friday; Annual Budget Presentation on July 24

Itanagar, July 18, 2024 — The Arunachal Pradesh assembly is preparing to convene its budget session starting this Friday, with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein slated to present the annual financial statement for the fiscal year 2024-25 on July 24. Assembly Secretary Kago Habung confirmed these dates, marking the beginning of legislative activities under the third term of the Pema Khandu government.

The eight-day session, scheduled to conclude on July 26, will commence with the customary motion of thanks to the governor’s address delivered at the outset of the Eighth Legislative Assembly session on June 14 and 15 by Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik.

Highlighting the legislative agenda, the session’s opening day will feature the tabling of three pivotal bills: ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Amending Bill, 2024’, ‘The Arunachal Pradesh Public Examination (Measures to Prevent Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024’, and ‘The Balipara/Tirap/Sadiya Frontier Tract Jhum Land Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2024’.

Ahead of the session, Arunachal Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte chaired a preparatory meeting with the Business Advisory Committee, attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, Deputy Speaker Kardo Nyigyor, and MLAs representing various political parties including BJP, NPP, NCP, and PPA.

With the BJP holding 46 seats in the 60-member House, supported by NPP (5 seats), NCP (3 seats), PPA (2 seats), and three independent members, the session is expected to proceed with cooperation from all major political factions, except for the single-member representation of the Congress party.
