Mizoram’s Anti-Narcotics Campaign: Major Drug Seizure and Destruction of Illicit Liquor

Aizawl, July 22 – Mizoram’s crackdown on illegal drug and liquor activities has seen significant progress, with two major operations highlighting the state’s commitment to combating substance abuse.

On July 20, 2024, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Special Narcotics and CID (Crime), Aizawl, recovered 1 kg of Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) worth Rs 3.01 crore. The operation, conducted at the CH Chhunga Bus Terminal in Thuampui, Aizawl, led to the arrest of an individual involved in drug trafficking. This successful seizure underscores the ongoing efforts to tackle narcotic distribution in the region.

Earlier, on July 19, the Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department carried out a significant operation against illicit liquor. At Bethani Multipurpose Farm in Phunchawng, the department destroyed illicit alcohol valued at Rs 57,15,800. This destruction was carried out under Rule 65(1) of the Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Rules, 2022, reflecting the state’s vigorous enforcement of prohibition laws.

Both actions highlight Mizoram’s commitment to maintaining law and order and addressing the challenges posed by substance abuse.
