Sikkim CM Announces Major Benefits for Journalists on Press Club Foundation Day

Gangtok, July 22 — On the foundation day of the Press Club of Sikkim (PCS), Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang unveiled a series of substantial benefits aimed at supporting and recognizing journalists in the state.

CM Tamang announced that the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department will provide an annual grant for the Press Club of Sikkim Foundation Day. This grant will include cash awards of Rs 1,01,000 for the Kanchenjunga Kalam Puraskar and Rs 51,000 for the Lagansheel Yuwa Patrakar award.

Furthermore, Tamang revealed that funds from the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG) will be allocated for pensions for journalists, with eligibility criteria to be set by the Press Club of Sikkim.

In a move to enhance the well-being of journalists, the Chief Minister also announced plans to provide health insurance coverage. A meeting will be organized between Central Referral Hospital (CRH) Manipal and the IPR Department to finalize the insurance details.

Additionally, Tamang committed to revising advertisement rates for daily and weekly newspapers, addressing a key concern of the local media community.

These initiatives underscore the state government’s commitment to supporting journalism and recognizing the essential role of the media in society.
