Governor Phagu Chauhan’s Tenure Ends with Symbolic Tree Planting at Raj Bhavan

Shillong, July 29, 2024 — Governor Phagu Chauhan marked the end of his term with a symbolic tree-planting event at Raj Bhavan, where he planted an amla sapling as a gesture of his dedication to Meghalaya. The ceremony, which was also attended virtually by First Lady Murahi Devi, included the planting of an additional sapling in her honor.

Chauhan’s departure will see C H Vijayashankar, a seasoned Karnataka politician, take over as governor. Vijayashankar, recently appointed by President Droupadi Murmu as part of a broad gubernatorial reshuffle, has a distinguished record in Indian politics, having served two terms in the Lok Sabha and held various cabinet positions in Karnataka.

The date for Vijayashankar’s formal inauguration is yet to be announced.
