C H Vijayashankar to Assume Role as Meghalaya Governor in Oath Ceremony Today

Shillong, July 30, 2024 — C H Vijayashankar is scheduled to be inaugurated as Meghalaya’s new Governor today, with the oath of office being administered by Chief Justice S. Vaidyanathan of the Meghalaya High Court at 4:30 pm at Raj Bhavan, Shillong.

The event will be attended by key dignitaries, including Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, cabinet ministers, and senior government officials. Vijayashankar’s appointment comes as part of a recent gubernatorial reshuffle announced by President Droupadi Murmu on July 27, affecting nine states across India.

A prominent political figure from Karnataka, Vijayashankar brings extensive legislative experience to his new role. His career includes serving in both state and national legislatures, beginning with his election to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in 1994. He also represented the Mysore constituency in the Lok Sabha for two terms and held various cabinet positions in Karnataka, overseeing areas such as forestry and small-scale industries. Additionally, he served in the Karnataka Legislative Council from 2010 to 2016.

Vijayashankar’s extensive background is anticipated to offer valuable perspectives and guidance in his new position as Governor of Meghalaya.
