Manipur Police Dismantle Insurgent Network, Arrest Four and Free Abducted Victim

Imphal, July 30, 2024 — Manipur police have successfully disrupted insurgent activities with a series of operations on July 29, resulting in the arrest of four suspected insurgents and the rescue of an abducted individual.

In the Imphal West District, police apprehended two alleged members of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), identified as Wahengbam Tombi Singh (47) and Thoudam Hemchandra Singh (42). The suspects, accused of extorting funds from educational institutions and businesses, were found with four mobile phones, a wallet, Rs 13,520 in cash, and a four-wheeler vehicle.

In another operation in the same district, two active members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) were arrested. Huiningshungbam Kenjen Singh (36) and Irom Mikoi Singh (47) were engaged in extortion of local educational institutions. Authorities seized three mobile handsets, a wallet, an Aadhaar card, Rs 30,690 in cash, and a two-wheeler vehicle from the suspects.

The police also rescued Mangminlal Kipgen (24), who had been abducted on July 28 after wandering into fields in Bishnupur District. The investigation into Kipgen’s background is ongoing, and he will soon be handed over to the appropriate authorities.

Additionally, police operations in vulnerable hill and valley areas led to the discovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition. This included five HE-36 hand grenades, an SLR magazine, a 40mm lathode shell, a detonator, three smoke shells, 26 live rounds, 52 empty cartridge cases, seven HD cartridges, and three unmarked fire-out cartridges, found near Pechi Chinglak Bridge in Thoubal District.

These actions by the Manipur police represent a significant effort to curb insurgent activity and restore stability in the region.
