Suspect Injured in Police Shooting During Escape Attempt in Kamrup

Hajo, July 30, 2024 — A murder suspect was injured in a police shooting early Monday while attempting to escape custody in Kamrup district. The incident occurred in Hajo as the suspect was being escorted to the crime scene for further investigation.

According to police, the individual had been detained on July 26 in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old girl that took place on July 25. During the early hours of Monday, while being led to the crime scene, the suspect allegedly overpowered a constable and tried to flee.

Despite repeated warnings from the police, the suspect continued to resist, forcing officers to fire at his leg to prevent his escape. He sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg and was subsequently transported to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

The suspect remains under medical care while the investigation into the incident and the original crime continues.
