Meghalaya Government Approves 25% Salary Hike for SSA Non-Teaching Staff Amid Protests

In a notable decision, the Meghalaya state government has sanctioned a 25% salary increase for over 1,200 non-teaching staff members of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). The announcement was made by the Special Officer in charge of the Education Department on July 26, 2024, directed to the State Project Director of Samagra Shiksha (SEMAM) and the Director of School Education & Literacy.

This salary enhancement will benefit office personnel at various levels, including Management Information System (MIS) staff, District Education Officers (DEOs), and accountants who operate at the state, district, and block levels.

The decision follows a letter from the Finance (EA) Department, dated July 18, 2024, and has gained approval from the “Competent Authority,” as indicated in the official communication.

The timing of this announcement coincides with ongoing protests led by the All Meghalaya SSA Non-Teaching Staffs Association (AMSSANTSA), advocating for salary improvements.
