Mizoram Home Minister Launches Statewide Fitness Drive for Police Force

Aizawl, Mizoram – On August 5, Mizoram Home Minister K Sapdanga launched the ’45 Minutes for All Ranks of Mizoram Police’ fitness programme at the 1st Battalion MAP Playground in Armed Veng. The initiative, designed under the theme ‘Train to Excel,’ aims to boost physical fitness across the state’s police force.

In his inaugural address, Sapdanga, who served as the chief guest, highlighted the importance of the fitness programme in modernizing the state police force. He expressed hope that the initiative would bolster public trust in the Mizoram Police, known for its longstanding reputation since the Union Territory era.

Sapdanga also addressed a critical issue: between January and August 2024, the Mizoram Police lost 77 personnel, many under 50 years old, due to substance abuse and lifestyle diseases. “Maintaining fitness through regular exercise and a balanced diet is essential for all police personnel,” Sapdanga stressed.

The programme will include mandatory battalion parades and physical training sessions every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with strict monitoring of attendance. Additionally, Sapdanga urged personnel to adopt regular walking as part of their routine.

The Home Minister also praised the Mizoram Police team’s success in the recent Mizoram Premier League and announced plans for a Police Sports event this autumn to further promote sports within the department. He advocated for the creation of Sports Cells in each unit and the enhancement of Arm Drill and Firing practices.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of Mizoram’s borders, Sapdanga called for rigorous security measures and urged officers to uphold the dignity of their uniforms. He also stressed the need for supervising officers to ensure thorough investigations and appropriate legal action against perpetrators.

The ’45 Minutes for All Ranks of Mizoram Police’ programme is seen as a significant effort to enhance health, fitness, and professionalism within the state police force.
