Manipur Police Strike at Insurgent Networks: KYKL and URF Members Arrested
Imphal, Manipur – Manipur Police made notable advancements in their crackdown on insurgent activities with the arrest of two Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) members on August 4. The detained individuals, Maibam Roshan Singh (alias Kishan), 38, and Maibam Naocha Singh, 36, were reportedly engaged in extortion and kidnapping for ransom, targeting local businesses such as stone crushers and mobile shops.
Seized from the suspects were four mobile phones, a black wallet, an Aadhaar card, Rs 11,950 in cash, and a four-wheeler vehicle, all of which are believed to be connected to their illicit operations.
On August 5, security forces further expanded their operation by capturing Budha Meitei (alias Daimal), 38, a member of the United Revolutionary Front (URF), in Salungpham Bazar, Thoubal district. Meitei is accused of extorting funds from a range of sources, including brick farms, educational institutions, and government employees.
From Meitei, authorities confiscated a pistol with a magazine, three live ammunition rounds, an extortion demand letter, a two-wheeler, two mobile phones, and three SIM cards. These items are currently being examined as part of the investigation into his extortion activities.
These arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by Manipur Police and security forces to combat militant extortion operations and enhance the safety of local communities in the region.
