MPSC Yields to KSU’s Demands, Agrees to Release Civil Service Preliminary Exam Marks Amidst Transparency Dispute

Amid rising tensions and protests orchestrated by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) has agreed to publish the marks of all candidates who participated in the Meghalaya Civil Service (Preliminary) examinations. The decision, announced on August 8, came after intense discussions between KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar and MPSC Chairman PR Marwein.

In a significant concession, the MPSC has committed to releasing not only the candidates’ marks but also the original and revised answer keys for the Preliminary exams, along with the correct answers. Additionally, the KSU secured an agreement that the MPSC would revoke the previous notification, and there is a possibility of roll number changes for candidates after their interviews.

The KSU’s protests earlier in the day included the symbolic burning of an effigy representing the MPSC, inscribed with words such as “corruption” and “nepotism.” This act underscored the union’s deep dissatisfaction with what they perceive as systemic corruption and lack of transparency in the commission’s examination process. The union argued that the MPSC’s initial reluctance to release the marks exacerbated concerns over the fairness and integrity of the recruitment process.

Marngar emphasized that making the exam results public is essential for rebuilding trust in the MPSC, which has faced increasing scrutiny and criticism over its handling of civil service exams. The KSU’s actions reflect a broader call for greater transparency and accountability within the commission.
