Tripura Teacher Succumbs to Injuries After Mob Attack Over Molestation Allegations

Udaipur, Tripura, August 10, 2024 — A tragic incident in Gomati district’s Udaipur town has resulted in the death of a government school teacher who was assaulted by a mob. The assault occurred on August 8, following accusations that the teacher had molested a minor girl during a private tuition session.

The teacher, identified as Pradeep Kumar, was initially taken to the RK Pur police station, where a complaint was filed in the presence of his wife. Despite being admitted to a local health center and subsequently released on bail, Kumar’s health deteriorated, leading to his hospitalization at GBP Hospital in Agartala. He passed away on August 10 while undergoing treatment.

The violent response from the mob has drawn widespread condemnation. Tripura’s Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy expressed strong disapproval of the mob violence and assured that legal actions would be taken against those responsible for the attack.

The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault and the teacher’s death, with no arrests reported at this stage. The case has ignited a wave of concern and debate within the community regarding mob justice and the rule of law.
