Assam CM Grants Land Pattas in Kamrup, Unveils Mission Basundhara 3.0

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma awarded land pattas to 881 residents of Kamrup district in a ceremony held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Amingaon. The distribution involved land deeds covering 369 bighas, 2 kathas, and 10 lechas, benefiting villagers from Barpalaha, Gog, Dakshin Mandakata, and Bhomolahati in Barbangshar Mouza.

During the event, CM Sarma highlighted the critical role of land ownership in securing citizens’ rights and livelihoods. He noted that the absence of formal land titles often creates significant challenges, such as difficulties in obtaining fair compensation during land acquisitions and accessing bank loans. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the land pattas, particularly for residents whose lands might be acquired for future infrastructure projects like the Guwahati Ring Road.

In a significant announcement, Sarma revealed that Mission Basundhara 3.0 would be launched in October. This phase of the initiative will prioritize issuing land pattas to Namghars, schools, and various institutions, and will include efforts to convert shared leases into private ownership. Additionally, Sarma disclosed plans to introduce new legislation aimed at preventing the sale of land to non-indigenous communities in the undivided Goalpara district.

The ceremony saw the participation of key dignitaries, including Environment and Forests Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, BJP Assam President Bhabesh Kalita, MPs Bhubaneswar Kalita, Dilip Saikia, Bijuli Kalita Medhi, MLA Diganta Kalita, and District Commissioner Keerthi Jalli.
