Tripura CM Manik Saha Commemorates Maharaja Bir Bikram on 116th Birth Anniversary

Khumulwng, August 19, 2024 — Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha marked the 116th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur by honoring him as a pivotal figure in shaping modern Tripura. The event, held over two days in Khumulwng, West Tripura, celebrated the Maharaja’s legacy in advancing education, infrastructure, and cultural development in the state.

In his tribute posted on social media, Saha lauded Maharaja Bir Bikram as a visionary leader whose influence remains vital in Tripura’s progress. The celebrations, organized by the INTACH Tripura Chapter and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), included a panel discussion and an exhibition dedicated to the Maharaja’s contributions.

Saha criticized the previous administration for neglecting the royal family’s recognition and failing to honor their historical significance. Since 2018, Saha’s government has taken steps to commemorate the Maharaja, including renaming the Agartala airport in his honor, declaring his birthday a public holiday, and installing a full-length statue of the Maharaja at the airport.
