Meghalaya Lawyer and Activist Kynjaimon Amse Dies in Tragic Road Accident
Kynjaimon Amse, a prominent 30-year-old lawyer and activist from Meghalaya, has died in a road accident in Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District, on August 22.
Amse, an alumnus of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) and North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), was known for his fervent dedication to social justice and legal advocacy. He completed his early education at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School in Umkiang and St. Edmund’s College in Shillong.
Amse had recently gained attention for his opposition to a cement plant project in Wahiajer Village, where he threatened legal action if the project’s No Objection Certificate was not revoked. His legal work was characterized by his efforts to address infrastructure issues in remote regions along the Indo-Bangladesh border and his activism against poor road conditions on National Highway 6.
In 2023, Amse was appointed as a Legal Aid Counsel by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, highlighting his growing influence and potential in the legal field. His sudden passing is a profound loss to the community and the broader sphere of legal advocacy in Meghalaya.
