Nagaland Government to Review Key Laws During Monsoon Session
The Nagaland government has announced a review of two major pieces of legislation in the upcoming state Assembly monsoon session from August 27 to 29. The laws under review are the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act of 1989 and the communitisation programme in the power sector.
Minister and Government Spokesperson K.G. Kenye disclosed that the liquor prohibition law, in place for over 30 years, is being reconsidered to align with current societal needs and ensure its continued effectiveness.
The government is also evaluating the communitisation programme, which introduced a single-point metering system and entrusted village authorities with power tariff collection. The review will assess whether this system still meets its objectives or requires modifications to better serve the state’s power sector.
These proposed revisions are set to impact both the legal landscape and the management of Nagaland’s power sector, with important decisions expected during the session.
