Manipur Security Forces Seize Large Cache of Arms and Explosives Amidst Major Operations
Imphal, August 24 — Manipur’s security forces have conducted extensive operations across both hill and valley districts, resulting in the significant seizure of arms, ammunition, and explosives. These efforts are part of ongoing measures to enhance security and counter insurgent activities in the region.
In the Bishnupur District, the forces uncovered a large arsenal, including:
- One AK-47 assault rifle
- One .303 bolt-action rifle
- One 12-bore single-barrel gun
- Several pistols with accompanying magazines
- Eleven HE-36 hand grenades
- Eight detonators
- Various other explosive devices and ammunition
- An improvised mortar with bipod and two mortar shells
Notable recovery sites in this district included Wainem, Keinou Maning, and Ayokpa Khun.
In Kakching District, the forces seized:
- One INSAS rifle with a loaded magazine
- One 9mm pistol with an empty magazine
- Five HE-36 grenades
- One bulletproof vest
- Several blank rounds
- Other tactical gear and ammunition
The operations are part of a broader strategy to secure the region amidst ongoing unrest and tensions. In addition to arms recovery, security measures have facilitated the movement of essential goods, with 65 vehicles on NH-37 and 54 vehicles on NH-2 operating under heightened security protocols.
Authorities have established 105 checkpoints across various districts, leading to the detention of 224 individuals for breaches related to these security measures. The intensified efforts underscore the commitment to restoring and maintaining peace and order in Manipur.
