Assam CM Sets Conditions for Support to Jharkhand’s Hemant Soren Amid Political Maneuvering

New Delhi, August 26, 2024: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has outlined specific conditions for extending support to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Hemant Soren, emphasizing the importance of national unity and security. Sarma’s statement comes amid growing political tension in Jharkhand, with Soren currently in Delhi to explore future political alliances.

Sarma specified three key conditions for his support: the creation of 500,000 jobs by September, taking a firm stance against illegal infiltrators, and addressing the alleged mistreatment of Hindus during Muharram. “Our priority is the nation,” Sarma declared, stressing that his backing would depend on Soren’s commitment to these issues.

He also hinted at the possibility of future collaboration between the BJP and JMM, provided Soren aligns with these conditions. “If Hemant Soren fulfills these conditions, we will support him. The JMM should back us in return, and we will stand together to expel infiltrators from Jharkhand,” Sarma added.

Champai Soren, a senior JMM leader and former Jharkhand Chief Minister, is also reportedly weighing his options. Speculation suggests that Soren may consider forming a new political party, although he has not yet resigned from the JMM or his ministerial roles.

Champai Soren remains a significant figure in Jharkhand politics, having secured his legislative seat in every election since 2005. His potential political moves are being closely watched as they could significantly impact the state’s political landscape.
