BSF Halts Major Cattle Smuggling Operation in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills
West Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya: On September 1, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully intercepted a major cattle smuggling operation along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Jaintia Hills district. Acting on precise intelligence, the 4th Battalion of the BSF seized 23 cattle that were being trafficked into Bangladesh.
The operation underscores the BSF’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal smuggling activities. Following the interception, authorities have launched an investigation to track down the sources of the smuggling ring and to curb future violations.
This recent success follows a similar bust on August 15, where BSF personnel thwarted another cattle smuggling attempt in the same district, rescuing 13 cattle hidden in a forest area. Both incidents highlight the BSF’s proactive stance in maintaining border security and deterring illegal cross-border activities.
