Manipur CM Decries Drone Bombings as Terrorism Amidst Escalating Violence
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has condemned the recent use of drones for bombing civilian and security targets, denouncing the acts as terrorism. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Singh characterized the drone attacks as acts of cowardice and stressed the state’s commitment to addressing these threats with the highest level of seriousness.
Singh assured the public that the government is implementing robust measures to counteract these terrorist activities, which he emphasized are specifically targeting the indigenous population. He called for unity among the people of Manipur to stand against violence, hate, and divisive elements.
The condemnation follows a recent attack in the Senjam Chirang Maning area on September 2, where two bombs dropped by drones exploded around 6:20 pm. The incident resulted in injuries to 23-year-old Watham Sanatombi Devi, daughter of W. Gambhi from Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai.
This attack has raised alarms about the increasing use of drones for violent purposes in the region. Authorities are actively investigating the incident to determine the perpetrators and assess the broader security implications.
