Thirteen Students Hospitalized After Suspected Food Poisoning at Jatiya Vidyalaya, Tinsukia
Tinsukia, September 3, 2024 – Thirteen students from Jatiya Vidyalaya in Mamorani were urgently hospitalized at Tinsukia Medical College following a suspected food poisoning outbreak at the school’s hostel. The students began experiencing symptoms of severe illness shortly after consuming breakfast on Tuesday morning.
Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the outbreak. Preliminary assessments suggest that the contamination may have been linked to fish or potentially spoiled food served during breakfast. This incident has sparked serious concerns regarding the food safety practices within the hostel’s kitchen.
This troubling event is reminiscent of a similar case in June 2024 at Hariram Maheshwari Hindi Primary School in Bongaigaon, Assam, where numerous children fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal. In that case, expired biscuits were believed to be the culprit, leading to the hospitalization of several students. The Bongaigaon incident prompted swift action from the education department, which implemented corrective measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
At Jatiya Vidyalaya, the condition of the hospitalized students is reported to be stable, with medical professionals closely monitoring their recovery. Authorities are taking steps to ensure that the source of the contamination is identified and addressed promptly to prevent any further health risks to the students.
