Assam Police Seize Counterfeit Currency in Bongaigaon, One Arrested
Bongaigaon, September 5, 2024 — In a major operation against smuggling activities, the Assam Police’s Government Railway Police (GRP) seized counterfeit currency notes in Bongaigaon, leading to the arrest of a man identified as Sabir. The police apprehended Sabir while he was allegedly transporting fake currency notes.
During the search, officers recovered approximately ₹1,78,500 in counterfeit notes from Sabir’s possession. According to sources, Sabir is a resident of Uttar Pradesh, raising concerns about the wider network of fake currency smuggling in the region.
