Suspect Arrested in Arunachal Pradesh Child Sexual Assault Case
Itanagar, September 6, 2024 — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a child sexual assault case in Arunachal Pradesh following a collaborative investigation by state and district police forces. The case was opened by the Itanagar Women Police Station (WPS) on September 3, after a 10-year-old girl was reported to have been assaulted on August 31.
The victim’s mother sought medical assistance upon noticing her daughter’s distress, leading to a medical examination that confirmed the assault. The girl had been lured by an unknown man who offered her chips.
The police registered a case under ITA WPS Case No. 45/2024, citing Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and Section 4 of the POCSO Act. Inspector Nich Rupa oversaw the investigation, supported by a special team and under the supervision of the SP Capital.
The suspect, identified as a labourer from Naharlagun, initially evaded capture. An unsuccessful raid in Lakhimpur on September 5 was followed by further intelligence gathering that led to his arrest in Yomcha, West Siang district, with help from the local police.
The SP Capital praised the investigation team for their commitment to protecting children and ensuring justice in such critical cases.
