Tripura Witnesses Remarkable Increase in Female Higher Education Enrollment: CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has announced a significant milestone in the state’s education sector, revealing a substantial rise in the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) for female students in higher education. Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebration of Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Unakoti district, Saha disclosed that the current academic year (2024-25) has seen an impressive 37,450 girls enrolling in general degree colleges, surpassing the 35,800 boys enrolled.

This marks a continuation of the positive trend from the previous year, where female enrollment reached 35,650, just shy of the 35,800 male students. Saha attributed this achievement to the state government’s concerted efforts to promote women’s education and empowerment, including the introduction of free education for girls up to the college level since 2022.

Other initiatives contributing to this success include the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, 33% reservation for women in government jobs, ‘pink toilets’ for female safety, and 50% reservation for women in government stalls.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the impact of the National Education Policy (NEP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the state’s educational progress, emphasizing the future benefits of the NEP and the introduction of the ‘Lakshya’ scheme to aid students in preparing for competitive exams.

Furthermore, Saha mentioned the upcoming Dhamma Dipa University in Sabroom and the progress of Techno India University and Aryavart International University, which aim to enhance the state’s educational infrastructure.
