Manipur Imposes Curfew in Imphal East and West Districts Amidst Escalating Tensions

Curfew has been imposed in the Imphal East and West districts of Manipur starting September 1, 2024, due to escalating law and order issues. The curfew, mandated under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, restricts public movement outside residences until further notice.

Originally, a curfew relaxation from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM on September 10, 2024, was in place but has been revoked. The renewed curfew, which came into effect at 11:00 AM on the same day, enforces stricter controls across Imphal East.

Exemptions are in place for essential service providers such as health workers, media personnel, and municipal staff, along with passengers of flights. The public is advised to comply with the curfew restrictions for their safety as authorities work to stabilize the situation.
