Nagaland to Revamp ILP System in Response to Rising Illegal Immigration
Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton led a strategic meeting at Rhododendron Hall, Chümoukedima, on September 9, focusing on strengthening the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to combat illegal immigration.
Patton emphasized that the ILP is crucial for regulating legal entry into Nagaland but noted the increasing challenge posed by illegal immigrants. He highlighted that Dimapur is a significant transit hub, with 93 illegal immigrants arrested since January, and 43 of those detained just last month.
The ILP Implementation Committee, overseen by Patton, has completed its report, with further decisions pending consultations with civil society organizations. Patton called for public cooperation and patience as new measures are rolled out.
Nagaland’s Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma, committed to enhancing the ILP monitoring system, including the introduction of online applications to improve enforcement. Civil society groups have emphasized the need for stringent ILP enforcement in Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima to preserve the state’s cultural and demographic integrity.
