Thoubal District Enforces Prohibitory Orders Amid Rising Tensions

Thoubal, Manipur — District Magistrate Ahanthem Subhash Singh has imposed prohibitory orders across Thoubal District, effective from 12 noon today, in response to growing security concerns. The decision follows a report from the Superintendent of Police, which warned of potential unrest due to the activities of anti-social groups posing a risk to public order.

The prohibitory orders, enacted under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, restrict residents from leaving their homes to prevent any outbreak of violence and ensure public safety. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

While essential services such as healthcare, electricity, and water supply remain operational, residents must seek written permission for urgent matters like weddings or funerals. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace and stability in the district.
