Bangladeshi National Arrested in Assam After 12 Years of Illegal Stay

In a major operation against illegal immigration, Assam’s Hailakandi police arrested Md. Shyam Uddin, a Bangladeshi national, for residing illegally in India for the past 12 years. The arrest was made on September 11 in Dhanipur village, located under the jurisdiction of Lala Police Station.

Authorities revealed that Uddin had been living at the residence of Taj Uddin Chowdhury, who had falsely claimed Uddin as his own son. Chowdhury had provided shelter to Uddin for over a decade, allowing him to remain undetected by local authorities.

Following a tip-off, police launched a swift operation leading to the arrest of both Uddin and Chowdhury. Law enforcement officials are now interrogating the two men to uncover the methods Uddin used to evade detection for such an extended period.

The case has prompted a renewed focus on tackling illegal immigration in the region, with the authorities determined to take strict legal action against Uddin for violating immigration laws. The incident underscores the ongoing efforts of local officials to address the challenge of illegal migrants in Assam.
