Nathu La Day: Tributes Paid to Indian Soldiers Who Fought in 1967 India-China Conflict
Gangtok, Sikkim: The 58th anniversary of Nathu La Day was commemorated on September 11, paying tribute to the Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1967 India-China conflict. The solemn ceremony took place at the Sherathang War Memorial near Nathu La Pass and was attended by dignitaries including Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Major General Amit Kabhtiyal.
Governor Mathur highlighted the importance of the day, calling for a film to inspire the youth and commemorate the soldiers’ sacrifices. Chief Minister Tamang announced that from next year, Nathu La Day would be officially celebrated as ‘Nathu La Vijay Diwas.’
The event also saw Sikkim High Court Chief Justice Biswanath Somadder emphasize the historic significance of the conflict, which played a crucial role in maintaining peace along the border. Senior officials from the Indian Army, Sikkim Police, and the state government were present to honor the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers.
