Sikkim Government Unveils Ambitious Infrastructure and Tourism Projects
Gangtok, Sikkim — The Sikkim government has launched a series of major infrastructure and tourism initiatives aimed at bolstering the region’s development and appeal. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced plans to build a substantial parking facility at Nathula on the India-China border to accommodate 1,000 tourist vehicles. This development is expected to support the growing number of visitors and enhance the area’s tourism potential.
Additionally, Ganesh Tok, on the outskirts of Gangtok, will be revamped into a major tourist attraction, featuring restaurants, banquet halls, and event spaces. This transformation aims to create a global tourist destination showcasing Sikkim’s unique artwork and culture, offering panoramic views and integrating local cultural elements.
A significant new project includes the construction of the Kanchendzonga State-of-the-Art Convention Centre in Namli, which will include guest houses, modern conference rooms, auditoriums, a sports complex, and a wedding hall. This centre is set to facilitate both official and cultural events, further promoting local tourism.
In response to the needs of working women, the government will also build a 500-bedded hostel in Gangtok, providing secure and affordable accommodation with women-operated facilities to ensure a supportive environment.
Furthermore, the Mukhyamantri Punarvaas Awas Yojana will focus on housing and resettlement for those displaced or affected by recent floods, addressing urgent housing needs and supporting affected communities.
Chief Minister Tamang emphasized the importance of integrating Sikkimese aesthetics and traditional motifs into these projects to preserve and promote the region’s cultural heritage. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, boosting tourism, and addressing the needs of its residents.
