Meghalaya BSF Thwarts Major Smuggling Operations Along India-Bangladesh Border
Meghalaya, India: On September 17, 2024, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya achieved a major success in its anti-smuggling operations along the India-Bangladesh border. The BSF managed to intercept and seize contraband goods and cattle valued at over ₹16 lakhs, highlighting their ongoing efforts to combat illegal cross-border activities.
Acting on specific intelligence, the 193 Battalion of the BSF halted a significant shipment of food items and contraband goods in the East Khasi Hills district. The seized contraband has been handed over to customs officials for further processing, effectively stopping the illegal goods from reaching their intended market.
In a separate operation, the 4th BSF Battalion rescued 12 buffaloes near Border Outpost Hawaitila, which were being smuggled into Bangladesh. This intervention dismantled a major cattle smuggling ring, preventing a substantial financial loss for the traffickers.
Furthermore, the 200 BSF Battalion intercepted a large consignment of clothing items destined for illegal transport into Bangladesh. This operation underscores the BSF’s vigilance and commitment to border security, reinforcing their role in preventing illegal trade and safeguarding national interests.
