NDA Allies Strategize for Sidli and Bongaigaon Bypolls in Key Chirang Meeting
Chirang, Assam: A crucial strategy meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies was held at the BRG Refinery in Dhaligaon, Chirang, focusing on the forthcoming bypolls in Sidli and Bongaigaon assembly constituencies. The gathering brought together prominent political figures including Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister Ashok Singhal, and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Pramod Boro, alongside leaders from the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).
The meeting underscored the coalition’s dedication to the electoral strategies agreed upon in 2021, emphasizing collaborative efforts to secure victories in the bypolls. Chief Minister Sarma advocated for a strategic partnership between the UPPL and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) in anticipation of the 2025 Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, highlighting the significance of unified regional politics.
Addressing recent concerns, Chief Minister Sarma responded to statements from the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) about the safety of Muslims in Assam. He assured that the region remains secure, countering fears of increased criminal activities. Sarma clarified that the eviction issue in Sonapur pertains specifically to the tribal belt and should not be construed as a broader safety threat.
Sarma also commented on the current political climate, noting that the flourishing of free speech and recent protests against his administration are signs of a robust democratic environment. He affirmed, “If there was no safety, then anyone speaking against me would have been arrested,” reinforcing his administration’s commitment to upholding civil liberties.
