SIT Launched to Investigate Rs 4 Crore Gold Theft from Bank of Baroda in Manipur
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the theft of gold worth approximately Rs 4 crore from the Bank of Baroda branch located within the Manipur University complex. Four employees, including the branch manager, have been detained as part of the investigation.
The robbery occurred in the early hours of September 13, but the incident was reported to the Singjamei police station only on September 17. The theft came to light when the bank cashier discovered a broken vault lock while conducting routine operations around 10 AM. An inventory check revealed that several packets of gold were missing, raising suspicions of internal involvement.
The incident has sparked concerns about security measures at financial institutions, leading to increased scrutiny of existing protocols and safeguards against internal theft.
