Naga Peoples’ Organisation and KSTC Denounce Arson Attempt at Shri Pashupati Nath Mandir in Manipur
The Naga Peoples’ Organisation (NPO) and the Karong-Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) have strongly condemned an alleged arson attempt at the Shri Shri Pashupati Nath Mandir in Senapati, Manipur, on September 25. This is the second attack on the temple within a few weeks, with the latest incident causing partial damage to the premises.
Local reports indicate that CCTV footage captured a burning log being thrown at a door inside the temple compound, while earlier footage showed a masked individual lurking near a pillar before fleeing the scene. Authorities are investigating the incident, which has sparked concerns over potential disruptions to the town’s peaceful environment.
In a joint statement, the NPO and KSTC emphasized the town’s commitment to religious harmony, declaring, “Any elements which work to break the social serenity is highly condemnable.” They called on law enforcement to promptly apprehend those responsible and ensure that such attacks do not recur.
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba took to Twitter to express his outrage, calling the act “barbaric” and an attack on secularism. He urged citizens to stand united in condemning the violence and stressed the urgency of bringing the perpetrators to justice. The incident has raised concerns about religious tolerance in the region, with many calling for stronger measures to protect places of worship.
