Hatshingimari, October 2, 2024 — In a significant operation, Assam Police detained twelve Bangladeshi nationals in the Hatshingimari region, close to the Indo-Bangladesh border, on the night of October 1. The arrests were made following specific intelligence reports, with police intercepting the group in South Salmara Mankachar.

Sources indicate that the detained individuals entered India approximately two to three months ago via Meghalaya’s Dawki and allegedly acquired Aadhar cards fraudulently to assert false claims of Indian citizenship. On the day of their apprehension, they were traveling in a tempo from Meghalaya towards Hatshingimari when police acted on the intelligence and intercepted them.

The operation was spearheaded by Sub-Inspector Zakaria Jafri Borjahan and Samsul Haque Bepari from the Kharuabandha police station, under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). The group was taken into custody in the Fulerchar char area.

Currently, the detainees are being interrogated at Kharuabandha police station to extract more information regarding their entry into India and any connections they may have. Following initial questioning, the suspects were handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Sishumari border area for further investigation into the matter.
