Mizoram to Hold Sinlung Hills Council Elections on November 5
Aizawl, Mizoram – The Mizoram State Election Commissioner, H. Lalthlangliana, has officially announced that elections for the 12-member Sinlung Hills Council are scheduled for November 5. Key dates for the election process include an October 10 deadline for nomination submissions and an October 14 cutoff for candidate withdrawals, with scrutiny of nominations set for October 11.
Voting will occur on November 5 from 7 AM to 4 PM, followed by immediate vote counting. The final electoral roll indicates a total of 23,789 registered voters, including 11,914 women, reflecting the demographic diversity of the electorate.
To ensure a smooth electoral process, security measures have been prioritized, with 38 polling stations established, of which 16 are classified as critical due to their proximity to the Assam and Manipur borders.
In a strategic move ahead of the elections, a pre-poll alliance has formed between the ruling Zoram People’s Movement and the Hmar People’s Convention, establishing a seat-sharing agreement for the 12 available seats. This coalition sets the stage for a competitive election in the region.
