Pakyong District Celebrates Milestone in Reviving Barren Lands for Sustainable Agriculture
Pakyong, Sikkim – October 5, 2024 – The District Administration Office of Pakyong has reported significant progress on the 11th day of the Mission Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation, an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming unused land into vibrant centers for sustainable agriculture, horticulture, and biodiversity tourism across Sikkim.
As part of this mission, Puran Kr. Gurung, the Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Animal Husbandry, officially opened a new Village Level Workers (VLW) office in Kamarey Village. This facility will provide essential support to local farmers, marking a key development in boosting agricultural production and facilitating the revitalization of barren land for cultivation.
The initiative’s Field Day Program, designed to engage the community through practical demonstrations, has yielded impressive results, fostering increased participation and awareness. Local Panchayats have been instrumental in promoting the economic and environmental benefits of reviving these lands, with many Gram Panchayats reporting enhanced revenues from sustainable production practices.
This achievement underscores the collaborative efforts of the Block Administrative Centres (BACs), Gram Panchayat Kendra (GPKs), and the Additional District Collector (ADC) Development Office of Pakyong District, working alongside local communities. Their collective dedication represents a significant advancement in Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable development, reinforcing its reputation as India’s first fully organic state.
The Office of the ADC Development expressed heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, acknowledging their relentless efforts in ensuring the mission’s success and strengthening Sikkim’s pledge to environmental stewardship.
