SSB Foils Illegal Timber Trafficking Attempt in Chirang

A proactive operation by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) led to the interception of a vehicle illegally transporting timber in Balla Moguri, Chirang. The operation, executed near Dangsiapara, targeted a vehicle with registration number AS 15 AC 0313, which was heading towards Bijni.

Acting on a credible tip-off, Party Commander B.D. Chakraborty and his team swiftly moved to intercept the vehicle, discovering it loaded with Gomari tree logs. Alarmingly, the logs were found to be transported without any valid documentation proving their legality.

Following the seizure, the SSB transferred both the vehicle and the illegally sourced timber to the Bijni Forest Department for further scrutiny. During the operation, two suspects were detained: Shanuwar Husein, a 22-year-old driver hailing from Majrabari village, and Meher Uddin, a 38-year-old handyman. They were subsequently handed over to the Forest Department for appropriate legal proceedings.

This operation reflects the SSB’s ongoing commitment to tackling illegal timber trafficking and preserving the region’s natural resources. It also underscores the critical role of community awareness and cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
