Lakhipur Officially Designated as Co-District in Assam to Foster Regional Development
Assam’s Minister for Public Health Engineering, Skill Employment & Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Jayanta Mallabaruah, inaugurated Lakhipur as a co-district on Saturday during a ceremony at Sadbhavna Bhawan, Fulertol, Lakhipur. This designation is viewed as a significant step towards promoting balanced regional development across the state.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shom, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav, and Lakhipur’s Co-District Commissioner Dhrubajyoti Pathak.
During his address, Guardian Minister Mallabaruah emphasized the Assam government’s commitment to fostering development in both the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys. He remarked that the establishment of Lakhipur as a co-district aligns with the government’s broader vision of ensuring equitable growth across the state.
“Assam’s development is incomplete without the Barak Valley,” Mallabaruah asserted. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, we are dedicated to making sure that every region receives the attention it deserves. The inauguration of Lakhipur as a co-district is a pivotal step in achieving this goal.”
Mallabaruah acknowledged the efforts of Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai in securing the co-district status, stating, “MLA Kaushik Rai’s dedication has been instrumental in this achievement. His vision for Lakhipur’s future is commendable.”
Rai expressed gratitude to the Assam government for its support in fostering Lakhipur’s growth, describing the day as “historic” for the region.
Echoing these sentiments, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya praised the government’s commitment to ensuring development reaches every corner of the state and lauded Rai’s efforts in achieving the co-district status for Lakhipur.
Cachar Deputy Commissioner Mridul Yadav highlighted the administrative significance of Lakhipur’s new designation, stating that it would enhance governance and service delivery in the area. He committed to working closely with local officials to implement various developmental initiatives.
