Assamese Actress Aimee Baruah Files Defamation Case Against Congress Spokesperson Reetam Singh

Assamese actress Aimee Baruah, wife of Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika, has filed a legal case against Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh over allegedly defamatory remarks made on Twitter. The case, filed on Wednesday, has resulted in Singh being questioned by Dispur police. The case, registered under sections of the BNS and IT Act, stems from lewd comments Singh allegedly directed at Baruah and her husband.

Although Reetam Singh has secured bail, he continues to face police scrutiny as part of the investigation. He was permitted to leave the police station after the initial round of questioning.

Singh, a vocal critic of Minister Pijush Hazarika, has taken to social media in recent months to levy serious accusations against the minister. Among them, Singh has claimed that Hazarika and an alleged “evil nexus” were involved in defrauding Assam through a supposed scam related to the semiconductor industry. He also accused the minister of cheating former employees of the Jagiroad Paper Mill.

In a controversial tweet, Singh implicated Aimee Baruah in the alleged death of a 3-month-old baby during the filming of her movie Semkhor, further fueling the dispute. This comment, which formed part of a broader series of accusations, has been central to the defamation case filed by Baruah.

The case underscores the rising tensions between political and public figures in Assam, as allegations and counter-accusations continue to escalate on social media platforms.
