Indian Army to Launch Month-Long Tribute Honouring Heroes of the Battle of Walong

Arunachal Pradesh, October 2024 – In a heartfelt tribute to the valiant soldiers of the 1962 Sino-Indian War, the Indian Army is set to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the historic Battle of Walong through a series of month-long events. Starting on October 17, 2024, and culminating on November 14, 2024, these events will honor the bravery, resilience, and sacrifice of the soldiers who defended India’s Eastern front.

The celebrations will feature a variety of activities, including white-water rafting, motorcycle and bicycle rallies, battlefield treks, and a half marathon, all reflecting the adventurous spirit of the Indian Army in the challenging terrains of Arunachal Pradesh. As part of the Army’s effort to engage with local communities, medical and veterinary camps will be held in remote villages, reinforcing the close bond between the Army and the people of the region.

The month-long tribute will conclude with a solemn ceremony on November 14 at the newly renovated Walong War Memorial. The day’s highlights will include a wreath-laying ceremony to honour the fallen heroes, a vivid retelling of the Battle of Walong, and traditional cultural performances by Mishmi and Meyor dancers, celebrating the heritage of the region.

Key infrastructure projects will also be inaugurated during the commemoration, including the Shaurya Sthal at Lama Spur, aimed at enhancing security and connectivity in the border areas. The Army will also honour the families of war heroes, veterans, and porters who played a crucial role during the battle, recognizing their contributions to the nation.

The Indian Army invites the public to join in this special tribute to the heroes of Walong, celebrating their courage while inspiring future generations to uphold the values of service and patriotism.
