Assam Rifles Seize Marijuana and Cash Worth Rs 95.44 Lakhs in Champhai Operations

In a significant crackdown, the Assam Rifles seized marijuana and Indian currency valued at approximately Rs 95.44 lakhs during two separate operations in Champhai, Mizoram, on Thursday, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

The first operation took place in the Zote area, where officers recovered 7.36 kg of marijuana, estimated to be worth Rs 5.44 lakhs. A 33-year-old local resident was apprehended in connection with this seizure.

In a subsequent operation at Vengsang, the team uncovered Rs 90 lakh in Indian currency and arrested a 38-year-old Myanmar national named Thanpmanglian. This operation highlighted the ongoing challenges of cross-border smuggling in the region.

Both operations were executed based on specific intelligence inputs and involved collaboration between Assam Rifles and the Excise & Narcotics Department of Champhai. The seized items and the suspects have been handed over to the Excise & Narcotics Department for further legal proceedings.

The persistent smuggling of illegal goods continues to be a major concern in Mizoram and across India. The Assam Rifles, often referred to as the “Sentinels of the Northeast,” are dedicated to combating illegal trafficking and are intensifying their efforts to apprehend key players involved in such activities.
